The Score is my interpretation of the trauma carried and passed down through generations of Black Americans. Frequently, I hear the saying “the body keeps the score” from Bessel van der Kolk. In 2025, this phrase along with resources like The 1619 Project inspired an exploration into the lasting legacies of generational trauma rooted in American slavery and compounded by the injustices and exploitation of every generation since. 

In 2026, after deep spiritual practice focusing on the womb and my own reproductive health, I have expanded on my original piece, The Matriarch. During my residency with Casa Lü, I grew this series in scale, materials, and narrative, confronting the relationship between pain, trauma, and bodily disconnection in Black women.
